Letter from the Editors

Picture
Dear Glassworks Readers,

We are so excited to share Issue 20 with you! As the Associate Editors, we loved having the opportunity to work on this issue and are thrilled it is finally ready to be shared with the world. Not only has this experience been very exciting, but it has provided each of us with the opportunity to learn how we can become better editors and writers.

When we began working with Glassworks, we knew that each of us shared a deep love for writing. Furthermore, we knew we were going to have the chance to work with amazing writers and editors -- each of whom has so much to teach us. It has been wonderful to be surrounded by others who appreciate the art of writing as much as we do. More than anything, we are so grateful to have gained such incredible editing and reviewing experience.

Our favorite part of working with Glassworks has been the opportunity to interact with writers on so many different levels. By reviewing and selecting pieces to be published in the magazine, we’ve been exposed to so many wonderful and diverse styles of writing, which in turn has helped us to become better writers. We’ve been able to observe many techniques and skills that may one day influence our own writing.

We believe each piece of writing and artwork published in Issue 20 is special and showcases each author’s and artist’s talents. We are both proud and honored to say that we had the chance to work on an issue with such incredible contributors.

Kaytlyn is excited for readers to experience the beauty of nature through another lens in John Chavers’ artwork titled, “Bark of the Artic No. 1” and “Bark of the Artic No. 3.”

Amanda thinks readers will appreciate “The Open Beak” by Barbara Daniels, which opens the new issue and invites readers into the Glassworks aura. The poem is unique and takes the audience into an unusual perspective. Amanda thinks readers will enjoy the poem’s sharp imagery and sense of rhythm.

Kassidy can’t wait for readers to enjoy “The Edge of Every City” by DS Maolalai. She feels that Maolalai’s use of imagery and metaphor lends to the beauty of the piece, and is deeply moved by the feelings of nostalgia that arise from the comparisons of the cities that Maolalai writes about.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude for being afforded the opportunity to work on Issue 20. Thank you to our Editor-in-Chief, Katie Budris; our Managing Editor, Jade Jones; and the rest of the Glassworks staff. We can’t wait to continue to learn more about the literary world and make new memories as we represent Glassworks at the AWP Conference in San Antonio this week!
