Encaustic Painting

Kari Hall (Guziec) was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and earned a BA in Visual Communications Design from Purdue University. It was there Kari was first introduced to encaustic painting and has kept her concentration on developing work in this medium. She worked successfully as a graphic designer for ten years before leaving to pursue her passion as a full-time artist in 2014. Her work has been shown in many galleries primarily in the Midwest and East Coast. Now based out of the Houston area, when she isn’t in the studio painting, she is spending time with her husband Drew, daughter Rosie, and Bloodhound Harvey. This video depicts her artistic process following the creation of an encaustic painting from beginning to end. Encaustic is a painting method where color-pigmented beeswax is melted, applied to a surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a smooth or textured finish.

Michael Hess is a filmmaker and writer who lives in Toronto. His films have played at the NYU Director's Series, NewFest, the American Cinemateque in Los Angeles, the Kansas International Film Festival and the Beloit International Film Festival.

Pradeep Edussuriya
Pradeep Edussuriya was born and raised in Sri Lanka and moved to the United States in 2000. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film from Northern Michigan University and Master of Fine Arts Degree in Film at Ohio University's School of Film.
Pradeep is currently based in beautiful Athens, Ohio and works as a Media Producer for People + Land Media, a division of National Network of Forest Practitioners. With People + Land Media, Pradeep works with grassroots organizations in the U.S. creating multimedia narratives in hopes of advocating progress, rural development and sustainability. Pradeep also works part time as an artist in residence/ instructor for Circle Round the Square, a fine arts program at Nelsonville York High School in Nelsonvile, Ohio.

Andrew Lam is the author of East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres and Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora. For eight years, he was a regular commentator on NPR's "All Things Considered." An editor with New America Media, the nation's largest association of ethnic media, Lam has contributed essays to dozens of newspapers across the country, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Baltimore Sun, the Atlanta Journal, and the Chicago Tribune. His third book, Birds of Paradise, a short story collection, is due out in 2013. He is currently working on a novel.

Charlie Hagan has maintained a lifelong passion for creativity and all things aesthetic. She studied at Simon Fraser University - earning a Bachelors Degree in Visual Art - and then completed an extensive Electronic Media Design program in Vancouver, B.C. Charlie particularly enjoys the physical presence of print and excels at clean, modern design with special attention toward clarity and organization.
